As of mid-2025, estimates from blockchain analytics firms place exchange-held BTC at levels not seen since before the 2020 bull cycle. That is not a coincidence. It is the compounded result of institutional self-custody adoption, the proliferation of cold storage solutions, and a post-FTX cultural shift among retail holders who no longer trust centralized platforms with long-term balances.
